Plan above shows key elements.   Proposal keeps exact same number of parking spaces, 6 residents and 7 short stay business.

Existing showing current problems.
Project focus on 3 areas.

First, At the Upper street intersection the proposal removes the pedestrian island and lighted bollards as reduction of traffic no longer warrants this. With these removed, the north side pavement can be built out for a shade tree with much needed dedicated bicycle parking.

Second, After Florence Street intersection the residual Cross Street up to the new filters needed clarity to drivers that it is a cul-de-sac. Often drivers enter and realise they need to back up. Two pavement build-outs visually narrow the road.  On the north side a build-out with a lollipop warning sign and on the south side a build-out with cherry tree and rain garden.

Third, At the traffic filter itself build-outs and planting replace the wooden temporary planter boxes. This careful layout prevents motorcycles and scooters mounting the pavements to circumvent the filter fine. Filter warning signs are moved closer together away from the buildings for better driver visibility. Extended pavements provide better pedestrian flow especially on the narrow south side.  As this is a major pedestrian intersection with Dagmar Passage, a ramped crossing slows any vehicles going through the filter. A cherry tree and low rain garden planting provide shade and greenery with SUD flood prevention.
