Solar Passive House Prototypes to densify Vermont towns bringing familiar local vernacular architectural forms into new NetZero housing.
This project innovated local zoning bylaw modernization for: higher density, minimal property setbacks, and required carports.

Development Review Board approved development of minimum boundary setbacks, carport only to ensure visibility through site and snow protection for cars. Carport acts as a buffer between houses. Ordinance requires carports never to become garages or rooms which lead to loss of car parking with cars under snow on the street complicating snow plowing. Garages in American homes often become storage accumulation forcing cars in driveway or streets. New ordinance keeps cars off winter streets. This project set a new precedent away from garages.
