REGENTS PLACE

Second Place -Invited Competition British Land/Architecture Foundation 2007

Invited competition for 6 practices organised by the Architecture Foundation for British Land. The project explores the domestic world of gardening. A colony of  terracotta pots with enlarged drain holes as skylights generate space for a café restaurant of the competition brief.  Within the massing several larger pots define communal eating table and the serving counter. As the plaza was built above underground parking, the pots allowed us to place large trees in the plaza. The rim of the upside down pots becomes a bench seat around these planters. The giant terracotta pots enliven the corporate office enclave in a humourous manner. The massing is bold and visible from the street and offices above which encourage people to explore and use it.
